Whicker: USC still has life thanks to win over Utah

With everything on the line, USC had been either desultory or dysfunctional in going 3-3.

Imagine what the Trojans would be if they were playing for nothing.

Their fans are spared that nightmare, at least temporarily. The Trojans couldn’t really block third-ranked Utah but somehow found a way to get around that, winning 42-24 in the Coliseum and getting to within a game of the Utes in the Pac-12 South.

Utah does not have a difficult schedule left. It doesn’t play Stanford, but does play UCLA in Salt Lake City on Nov.
