Whicker: USC scratches a 74-year itch with its third men's basketball victory over UCLA this season

LAS VEGAS >> Goodness gracious sakes alive.

John Wooden was 31 years old the last time USC beat UCLA three times in one season without a loss. That’s why “1942” was clearly written on the USC greaseboard Wednesday night.

“That’s a long time ago,” USC freshman Elijah Stewart said. “They didn’t even have computers back then.”

They have them now, but some of them might crash when they digest the fact that the Trojans bashed the Bruins by a total of 57 points this season. The climax was this 95-71 knockout at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in the Pac-12 Tournament, which any good boxing ref would have stopped early in the second half.
