USC's Cravens could fill hybrid role in NFL

Even before he was asked to move to his sixth different position on a football field, Su’a Cravens was already accustomed to playing the part of missing puzzle piece. After starting as a 7-year-old peewee nose tackle, Cravens bounced around as a running back, receiver, cornerback and safety through high school at Vista Murrieta, never tied to one position. An uncommon athlete, Cravens could do it all – play in coverage, stop the run, rush the passer. But none of his many roles seemed to satisfy those wide-ranging skills all at once.

With a desire to commit to safety, Cravens chose USC in 2013, and as a freshman, he immediately blossomed into one of the nation’s best at the position.
