USC 42, Utah 24 — the morning after:
• There’s a faint path for USC or UCLA to take the Pac-12 South title away from Utah, but it is sort of like filling an inside straight. Utah has one Pac-12 loss, USC and UCLA two apiece. The Utes have to go to Washington and Arizona in back-to-back weeks, and they play host to UCLA Nov. 21. If there are no upsets and UCLA beats Utah, the USC-UCLA winner would take the division because either would have the tiebreakr edge on the Utes.
• This illustrates one problem with 12-team conferences.
