USC seatmrolled by McCaffrey, Stanford in Pac-12 title game

SANTA CLARA >> At times Saturday night, some probably wondered if the ink was dry on new USC coach Clay Helton’s contract.

Helton apologized this week for not being glitzy, but he is predictable. When USC is favored, he wins. When USC is the underdog, he loses.

At least through eight games as a head coach this season, anyway, as No. 7-ranked Stanford defeated No. 24 USC, 41-22, before an announced crowd of 58,476 at Levi’s Stadium.

This is quite a comment on the state of USC football that going 5-3 earns you the head-coaching position.
