LOS ANGELES – What would life be like for the 2015 USC football team if starting quarterback Cody Kessler weren’t available?
The Trojans got a chance to find out Thursday, when the Heisman Trophy candidate missed practice to attend an orientation for graduate school. Redshirt sophomore Max Browne guided the first-team offense and looked every bit like a starter. Browne connected with JuJu Smith-Schuster, Adoree’ Jackson and others for sizable gains and didn’t throw an interception.
USC coach Steve Sarkisian didn’t tell the team before practice that Browne would be subbing for Kessler, creating a scenario akin to an in-game change.
