When USC offensive tackle Chad Wheeler was sent to a local hospital for psychiatric evaluation Saturday after an altercation with police, it was a surprise.
But it was not unprecedented. In May, another USC player was detained and sent to the hospital for a psychiatric evaluation after an emotional outburst and threatening people inside the football weight room, according to sources.
Two players sent to psychiatric evaluation in seven months could be viewed as a trend for a program with approximately 100 players. The player involved in the May incident was not on the roster this season but remained in school.
