USC linebacker Osa Masina investigated for sexual assault, suspension could run beyond opener

LOS ANGELES – Suspended USC reserve linebacker Osa Masina is under investigation by Cottonwood Heights police in Utah for an alleged sexual assault, Police Lt. Dan Bartlett confirmed.

Authorities are looking into an alleged incident involving Masina that occurred in July in Cottonwood Heights, Utah, a suburb of Salt Lake City.

USC coach Clay Helton announced Monday that Masina would not travel with the Trojans for their opener Saturday against top-ranked Alabama in Arlington, Texas, due to an unspecified violation of team rules.

Masina, a sophomore, is from Brighton High School in Cottonwood Heights.

Bartlett said he met with Masina on campus for an hour last week and a search warrant had been issued.
