Clay Helton, named USC's permanent coach in November, made his first two hires on Monday afternoon and didn't have to leave the family tree for one of them.
Tyson Helton, the coach's younger brother, will join the Trojans as running backs coach and passing-game coordinator. Tyson Helton, 38, has been a college assistant since 2001 and spent the previous two years as Western Kentucky's offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach.
Neil Callaway -- who also worked on the Western Kentucky staff -- will be USC's new offensive line coach, and there are also family ties there. Callaway, 60, also coached under the Heltons' father, Kim, at Houston in the 1990s.
