USC knew what it had going into National Signing Day — some of the best football talent in the state.
Six of the Trojans’ seven early enrolees came from Southern California, with receiver Josh Imatorbhebhe from Suwanee, Ga., the lone exception.
On Wednesday, that strategy changed dramatically as coach Clay Helton, with his first recruiting class at USC, went outside the state to land some big names.
• Cary Angeline, a 6-foot-7 four-star tight end from Downington East High in Exton, Pa., started the Trojan migration with the first national letter of intent faxed in.
• Jamel Cook provided the day’s first shocker as the 6-foot-4 four-star safety from Miami Central High turned down Florida State for USC.
