USC Football fans who hoped to see Porter Gustin return to the field for the Trojans’ bowl game may need to hold their breath. The junior outside linebacker remains in doubt as preparations for the Cotton Bowl began on Howard Jones Field.
Gustin did make it onto the field, but wearing a jersey and shorts while his teammates practice in full pads. While his foot was no longer in a cast, he did sport a boot protecting the toe he broke back in September and re-injured in November.
Head coach Clay Helton called Gustin “day-to-day” and “week-to-week,” noting that he has progressed but is still going through rehab.
