LOS ANGELES – Defensive back Leon McQuay started nine games for USC in 2014, but then seemed to lose his way the next season.
He started only two of eight games in 2015 before a knee injury knocked him out for three games late in the season. Heading into spring practice, McQuay was expected to battle for a starting role at safety.
Yet, if Saturday’s performance is any indication, it won’t be much of a fight. McQuay was impressive in coming up with two tipped interceptions in the day’s final competition drills.
“The competition drill at the end, defensively, even though they lost, I loved the fact they created the two turnovers there off first-team offense,” Coach Clay Helton said.
