LOS ANGELES – Former top 15 national recruit point guard Derryck Thornton has transferred to USC from Duke where he was the starting point guard as a freshman in 2016, it was announced by men’s basketball head coach Andy Enfield today (June 30). Thornton will have to sit out the 2016-17 season due to transfer rules and will have three seasons of eligibility remaining beginning with the 2017-18 season.
The 6-2 Thornton, from Chatsworth, Calif., started at point guard in 20 of Duke’s 36 games last season and averaged 7.1 points and 2.6 assists per game.
