LOS ANGELES -- Chad Wheeler, USC’s starting left tackle, was involved in an incident with Los Angeles police officers Saturday morning and was held for psychiatric evaluation, NBC reported.
Wheeler, a 21-year-old redshirt junior from Santa Monica, was not arrested, according to the report, but was taken to a hospital and held in protective custody after an incident at an apartment near campus.
NBC cited anonymous law-enforcement sources and said Wheeler ``was possibly under the influence of drugs or alcohol, punching walls and windows, and injuring his hands’’ before he was confronted by officers.
