In scrambling this week to spin the latest debacle on his watch, USC athletic director Pat Haden actually insisted, “I’ve got to always do what’s right for our team and our school.”
It was unclear if Haden’s fingers were crossed as he spoke, although he did make the pledge with a straight face.
If Haden really believed that, if Haden really felt any obligation to do the right thing, he would have resigned his position weeks ago when Steve Sarkisian, the Trojans coach (allegedly) vetted and hired by Haden over much more qualified candidates, went Chris Farley at the “Salute to Troy” event.
