Receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster to undergo surgery

USC receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster was scheduled to undergo surgery Monday afternoon for a fracture he suffered in his right hand against California, interim coach Clay Helton said Monday.

Helton, in a weekly university produced video, gave no timetable for Smith-Schuster’s return, saying some players have recovered from the procedure “as soon as three days” while others have taken longer.

“When he’s healthy and feels like he can go back out there, he will,” Helton said.

USC, which improved to 5-3 overall and 3-2 in the Pac-12 Conference, plays Arizona on Saturday night at the Coliseum.

Smith-Schuster was injured in the first quarter while returning a kickoff in the Trojans’ 27-21 victory over Cal at Berkeley.
