MLB Draft: USC hopes to keep most of recruiting class intact

LOS ANGELES >> USC baseball coach Dan Hubbs keeps a stack of papers in his office at Dedeaux Field this time of year.

“I have a million of them,” Hubbs said.

Hubbs keeps a list of the high school prospects who have committed to the Trojans. This year’s crop has 15 names.

He pairs them in two groups. Some, he figures, are “for sure coming.” That means they are expected to enroll in classes at USC and play at least three seasons, the minimum for players who opt for college. That’s the easy part. Then, he notes commits who are, “not for sure coming.
