There are only three practices left for USC and barring a surprise, junior Max Browne will probably be named the starter at the end of spring drills or during training camp.
Browne and freshman Sam Darnold are neck-and-neck during practices but Coach Clay Helton appears more comfortable with Browne’s experience when discussing the duo. That edge could trump Darnold’s stronger arm and athleticism, at least early in the season.
“I’m to the point now in my fourth spring, it’s not like there’s tons of mistakes,” Browne said. “There’s nothing flashing out there (to work on), I’m just making sure I’m sharp and executing.
