Former USC athletic director Mike Garrett is expected to be named athletic director at Cal State Los Angeles on Friday.
Garrett, 71, resigned in April as athletic director at Langston University in Oklahoma, where he spent three years. At the time he said he wanted his 10-year-old twin sons to spend more time with his wife’s family.
Garrett was fired as USC athletic director in 2010 after USC received NCAA sanctions for violations involving former tailback Reggie Bush. A few hours after the sanctions were announced, Garrett attended a booster meeting in the Bay Area.
“As I read the decision by the NCAA, all I could get out of all of this was … I read between the lines and there was nothing but a lot of envy, and they wish they all were Trojans,” Garrett said then.
