With two weeks left in the 2016 regular season, college baseball coaches throughout Southern California are humming a tune, and it’s not “California Dreamin’.”
It’s a little more R-rated, as in RPI. Counting the nightmares:
1. Not a single team in the state has a RPI better than 21 – the RPI being the ratings percentage index of wins, losses, schedules and various other notes used to determine entry and placement in the 64-team NCAA tourney field..
UC Santa Barbara’s RPI is a West-best at 21. Arizona (23) and Cal State Fullerton (29) are the only other teams better than 30.
