Preseason watch lists aren’t just for players as it turns out. USC head coach Clay Helton found himself being watched on Wednesday, making the 20-man Dodd Trophy watch list for 2018.
The Dodd Trophy doesn’t just take wins and losses into account. The award is focused on finding the head coach who best represents the three pillars of famed Georgia Tech coach Bobby Dodd’s philosophy: scholarship, legacy and integrity.
With 10 wins in each of his first two seasons in charge of USC, Helton is no stranger to coaching awards.
In 2016, he won the Football Writers’ First Year Coach of the Year Award will finishing as a finalist for the Paul “Bear” Bryant Coach of the Year award.
