Andy Enfield had to sell players on how he would resuscitate USC basketball, and his 'Dunk City' days gave him – and them –confidence he could do it

It was a leap of faith. That’s the only way Brett Comer can really describe it.

When Comer committed to Florida Gulf Coast in 2012 as the first recruit of new coach Andy Enfield, there was no film to watch of Enfield’s system. In reality, there was no evidence that his system even worked. There was only Enfield’s word. But something about the coach – a former shooting consultant who had never run a collegiate team – was convincing. He painted a picture of his wide-open, free-flowing offense and waxed poetic about playing in March, even though Florida Gulf Coast had just completed its first year of full Division I postseason eligibility.
