After stints at quarterback, USC’s Jalen Greene looks to specialize at receiver

LOS ANGELES >> When Max Browne transferred to Pittsburgh before the Rose Bowl last December, it left USC in search of a backup quarterback.

It landed on Jalen Greene.

Had Sam Darnold been injured against Penn State, Greene, a receiver, may have lined up behind center.

Over the weeks leading up to the bowl game, Greene swayed between the two positions in practices, prepped to be ready in a jiffy.

“He’s kind of all hands on deck at all times,” USC coach Clay Helton said.

Coaches have long applauded his versatility. Greene joined the program out of Serra High in Gardena, where he was a quarterback, and after redshirting as a freshman, moved to wide receiver.
