The USC Trojans have fired head coach Steve Sarkisian.
"After careful consideration of what is in the best interest of the university and our student-athletes, I have made the decision to terminate Steve Sarkisian, effective immediately," USC AD Pat Haden said in a press release.
Offensive coordinator Clay Helton will take over as the interim head coach.
"I want to thank Clay Helton for stepping into the interim head coach role, and I want to add how proud I am of our coaching staff and players and the way they are responding to this difficult situation," Haden said.

Helton previously took over as interim head coach when Ed Orgeron quit as interim head coach after he was passed over as head coach in favor of Sarkisian.
Sarkisian was recently placed on an indefinite leave of absence after reports that he was not sober at practice.
Haden said in the press release that he hopes Sarkisian will now be able to focus on his well-being.
