The UNLV Runnin’ Rebels had to rely on their big men at the free throw line to withstand a ferocious comeback attempt by the Air Force Falcons Wednesday.
UNLV’s first round at the Mountain West tournament spilled into overtime, but the Rebels secured a 97-90 victory to advance to the quarterfinals where it will play the rival Nevada, Reno Wolf Pack.
“It wasn’t anything special,” senior guard Jovan Mooring said. “We kept reminding each other we had to get a stop and we got them when we needed them.”
The Rebels shot 26-37 from the free throw line but made it when it counted most.
