CHICAGO — Former UNLV assistant coach Stacey Augmon said Friday he was headed back to the NBA to coach.
Augmon, who helped to lead the Rebels to an NCAA men’s basketball championship in 1990, did not provide specifics during an interview at the NBA Draft Combine. It is expected he would be an assistant coach in the NBA.
The UNLV product was an assistant coach for the Rebels under coach Dave Rice and Todd Simon, who took as interim coach after Rice was fired at midseason. Augmon campaigned for the job, interviewing early in the process before the school eventually hired Marvin Menzies away from New Mexico State
Augmon’s NBA background is as deep.
