Across the nation, sports teams have stood in solidarity with a variety of oppressed groups for a variety of reasons. The most recent example of this is the football players at the University of Missouri refusing to play. Students on our very own campus stood in solidarity with Mizzou on Nov. 17. The following is a list of sports teams showing solidarity and/or protesting in response to events in the United States.
The “Black 14”
In 1969, the University of Wyoming was slated to play Brigham Young University, a private college owned by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.
