Scarlet and Gray saves the day

The 41st Battle for Nevada raged on last weekend as old rivals UNLV and Nevada, Reno went head to head for the right to paint the Fremont Cannon.

The cannon has a long and semi-colorful history between the two schools. The first battle for the cannon took place in Reno on Nov. 21, 1970. The victor of the game received the privilege of taking the cannon back to their home school and painting it their school colors, navy blue for Reno and scarlet for Las Vegas.

UNR currently has the longest streak for wins of the cannon, having held it for eight consecutive years from 2005 to 2012.
