Rematch for Canelo-GGG Set for May

We all knew it was coming: May 5, Cinco De Mayo, Gennady “GGG” Golovkin (37-0-1, 33 KOs) will defend the world’s undisputed middleweight championship against Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (49-1-2, 34 KOs), in a rematch of one of boxing’s best fights of 2017.

The first fight took place last September in Las Vegas at the T-Mobile Arena. Despite most of the 20,000-plus fans that packed the T-Mobile largely being Mexican and Mexican-American, the crowd still shared a split as to who they devoted their affections to. “Canelo” is from Guadalajara, Mexico, so he certainly had his fans, adorning Mexican flags and “Canelo” red headbands that were popularized when Julio Cesar Chavez was a champion.
