After beginning the season on a bad note with an unexpected throttling at the hands of Wright State in their first game of the season, the Rebels sought to bounce back on the road against the University of California-Irvine. Senior center/forward Katie Powell poured in a team-high 15 points on 4-9 shooting (2-6 from the three-point line) and 7 rebounds, but the team couldn’t close the show in suffering a tough, 57-55 loss to the Anteaters.
Powell, who tallied what amounted to her per-game, season averages (15.0 PPG and 7.7 RPG, leading the team in both categories), played well, but missed a go-ahead jumper with less than 30 seconds left in the game.
