Fifty years of UNLV Rebel Football will not pass without celebration. Sept. 2 marks the point where the past meets the present. The Rebels will sport silver helmets with the same “Rebels” decal worn from 1982-86, during their season opener against the Howard University Bisons.
Although the helmet is a flashback to 1984, head coach Tony Sanchez decided to put his own spin on the symbol of victory. Instead of the facemask and “Rebels” script in a matte red, both will be red chrome instead, adding a flashy depth to a simple helmet.
Next to the popular “Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas” sticker, a commemorative sticker designed by Mike Mason of CatalystCreativ will debut on the back of the helmet, thrusting it into the spotlight for UNLV’s 50-year football run.
