The empty pool teased a crowd of swimmers sitting in front of it waiting to jump in. The smell of chlorine filled the air, tempting them even more. Banners hung from above, telling the stories of each swimmer and diver that made history at UNLV. Record breaking times, Mountain West Conference championships, top-30 finishes in the NCAA, to name a few.
The pool may have been calling their names, but their eyes and hearts were locked in on the man across the pool, Coach Jim Reitz.
Reitz, who coached 35 seasons of Rebel swimming and diving, was honored with having the UNLV pool in the Buchanan Natatorium named after him.
