It’s a summer day in Los Angeles, the Staples Center is empty with not a single fan in the arena. There’s an area set up with a table and a few chairs. The lights dim, your No. 32 jersey is raised to the (typically purple and gold) Staples Center rafters with a choir singing in the background.

Overwhelmed, you are dubbed “Clipper for Life.” Then, you are offered $175 million for five years of basketball service. How could you say no, right? Exactly, and that’s exactly what Blake Griffin did.

Now, one could assume with such a prestigious layout for a contract signing, the rest of the story goes something like, lots of wins, lots of playoff success, maybe a championship or two and the two parties live happily ever after.
