Former UNLV football player alleges medical malpractice ended his career

A lawsuit by a former UNLV football star against the surgeon who allegedly ended his career has become a medical stalemate.

Beau Orth, formerly a starter for UNLV football and a standout at Bishop Gorman before that, is suing Dr. Andrew Capanna, a neurosurgeon whose allegedly botched back surgery destroyed Orth’s hopes of playing professional football.

Orth experienced progressively worsening back pain from 2009 to 2010. After discussing his pain with Capanna, Orth was told it was one of the spinal discs in his lower back and that his injury could be solved with a micro discectomy.
