Their deaths are permanent but their stories are temporary. Protests, rallies and riots ensue but the closure never comes.
Recently, I had Vanissa W. Chan as a guest speaker in my class. During her presentation about her coverage of families post police-involved murders, she asked if the class was aware that Erica Garner had died.
Garner died at Woodhull Medical Center, where she was born, due to a myocardial infraction (a heart attack). She was 27 years old.
In addition, Chan informed us this happened almost four months ago.
For those who don’t know Erica was the daughter of Eric Garner.
