For the second World Cup in a row, the USWNT U-20s are going home after the group stage. Needing a 2-goal victory, the USWNT U-20s fell short of advancing past the group stage at the 2022 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup after losing to defending champions Japan by a 3-1 score tonight in Alajuela, Costa Rica.
The USA found themselves in a win-or-go-home situation after losing to Netherlands 3-0 last Sunday, forcing them into a position where they had to defeat Japan by two goals.
And obviously, it didn’t work out that way.
Both teams carried a scoreless draw into halftime.
