US World Cup Qualifying 2022 begins on September 2, 2021 against El Salvador. They have never felt more pressure than they do now. The team is youthful and very few faces were a part of the previous cycle, but the weight of failing to qualify for 2018 is on Christian Pulisic and the young group’s mind.
They won a tremendous victory against Mexico in Denver. This victory should bring some much-needed confidence to the team, coach Gregg Berhalter and the fans as they prepare for World Cup Qualifying. However, caution is needed. The CONCACAF competition is stronger than it has ever been as more players from the region are joining Major League Soccer, Liga MX, United Soccer League Championship and other leagues in North America and even gaining interest abroad.
