United States international Terrence Boyd said he is looking forward to working under Darmstadt coach Torsten Frings.
Boyd joined Darmstadt this week from Leipzig on an 18-month contract.
"Torsten Frings called me. As a Bremen-born this was a small honour," the 25-year-old said about the former Werder Bremen and Germany midfielder.
The U.S. attacker hopes to revive his career after a frustrating spell at the up-and-coming Bundesliga side which was hampered by knee injuries.
Prior to his move to the bottom club in Bundesliga, Boyd was linked with a switch to Huddersfield Town where his former coach at Borussia Dortmund's reserves, David Wagner, is leading the Wagner Revolution.
