The veteran attacker has suffered a setback in his recovery from an irregular heartbeat and has been shut down for the rest of the MLS season.
Clint Dempsey will miss the remainder of the 2016 MLS season with an irregular heartbeat, the Seattle Sounders announced Tuesday.
The 33-year-old attacker had been on the way back since being diagnosed with the issue in August and undergoing a procedure which attempted to correct it. However, he stopped training last week and now will not return this season.
The Sounders are hopeful Dempsey can return for the 2017 campaign.
