Major league soccer clubs have sold or loaned many Americans to European clubs. Ricardo Pepi, a former FC Dallas player, is the latest high-profile young American to make a move across Europe, signing for German club FC Augsburg.
Pepi’s transfer to Bundesliga side Augsburg cost roughly $20 million, setting a new club transfer record for FC Dallas. Ricardo Pepi’s transfer is the second most costly in Major League Soccer history, after only Miguel Almiron’s January 2019 move to Newcastle. On the other hand, Pepi becomes the most expensive USA major league soccer player to leave MLS for European football.
