ESPN's Marc Stein reports that D.C. United re-signed United States national team defender Steve Birnbaum to a four-year contract.

Birnbaum, 25, had been linked to moves away from MLS, with locations including Maccabi Tel Aviv in the Israeli Premier League and Swansea.
According to Steven Goff of The Washington Post, Birnbaum was under contract until the end of the 2017 season.
