On Thursday night, shortly before the United States Men’s National Team took on Colombia, Sports Illustrated writer and Fox Sports analyst Grant Wahl reported live on Fox Sports pregame coverage that Gregg Berhalter, currently the head coach for Columbus Crew SC, is the “frontrunner” to become the next manager for the USMNT.
This latest report comes almost a year to the day after the last permanent head coach, Bruce Arena, resigned following the USMNT failed to qualify for the 2018 World Cup. Since then, Dave Sarachan has managed the team on an interim basis.
