Yet another has thrown their hat into the ring to become the next U.S. Soccer president. Former USMNT player Paul Caligiuri is the latest to officially announce his candidacy for the position that will be up for election in February.
The 53-year-old California native appeared 110 times for the United States at the senior level and scored five goals. He’s most famously known for scoring the “Shot heard ‘round the world” in 1989 against Trinidad & Tobago to clinch World Cup qualification for the USA for the first time in 40 years.
Caligiuri joins a suddenly crowded field of candidates that include: Former player Eric Wynalda, current USSF Vice President Carlos Cordeiro, businessman Steve Gans, attorney Mike Winograd, and lower leagues manager Paul Lapointe.
