MLS suspends Rapids' Howard for abusive language toward fan

Colorado Rapids goalkeeper Tim Howard has been suspended for three games and fined an undisclosed amount for profane language directed toward a fan during a game against Sporting Kansas City and an altercation with a fan following the match.

The incident happened on Sunday after the Rapids' 3-1 loss at Sporting Kansas City. According to the league, MLS said the incident in question occurred near the players' tunnel, and that the ban was a result solely of his actions there.

Howard was also involved in a heated conversation with SKC forward Dom Dwyer after the final whistle, and exchanged expletives with some in the home crowd late in the match, but he was not disciplined for that behavior.
