The Sunderland Under-23 squad played Tottenham to a 2-2 draw in a Premier League 2 match on Monday. Three Black Cats senior team players were in the lineup for the reserves.
American midfielder Lynden Gooch started, but was stretchered off in the 27th minute with an ankle injury.
The USA international landed awkwardly after challenging for the ball midway through the first half, and after lengthy treatment he got to his feet and tried to hobble off under his own steam but soon abandoned that idea and had to be carried off.
"It's disappointing for [him]," Sunderland reserve team manager Andy Welsh told The Sunderland Echo.
