Defending Premier Soccer League champions Mamelodi Sundowns made light work of Kaizer Chiefs with a 3-0 win in the opening day's league action at the FNB Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
Although Chiefs - who were edged out to the league title on the final day of last season by Sundowns, were not completely outplayed – chances on goal were evenly shared - it was the Pretoria side's quality which shone through as goals for Peter Shalulile, Kermit Erasmus and a late Themba Zwane penalty fired them to victory.
Looking to push on from last weekend's cup win over Maritzburg United, Chiefs started brightly and it took a sharp save from Sundowns keeper Denis Onyango to stop Khama Billiat scoring with a third-minute volley after he had found space down the right channel.
