Julian Green opened his season with a stirring performance in the DFB-Pokal. The 25-year-old American international led Greuther Fürth to a 6-1 victory over RSV Meinerzhagen in the first round of Germany’s domestic cup.
The Cloverleaves got off to a slow start against their fifth-division opponents, falling behind 1-0 early in the second half. Fürth leveled proceedings in the 71st minute when Green’s cross was headed into the net by Sebastian Ernst. Green then scored the eventual game-winner in the 98th minute, cutting in from the left wing to the top corner of the box and placing his low, bouncing shot into the net.
