Jermaine Jones withdraws from USMNT roster with knee injury

The veteran midfielder has returned to his club team ahead of upcoming World Cup qualifiers, having been sidelined since July 4.

Jermaine Jones has withdrawn from the U.S. national team roster for a pair of World Cup qualifiers and returned to the Colorado Rapids to continue rehabbing a nagging knee injury.

U.S. Soccer announced Jones' departure Wednesday, one day after U.S. coach Jurgen Klinsmann told reporters in Jacksonville, Florida, that the 34-year-old midfielder's status was up in the air. Jones has not played for the Rapids since suffering a knee sprain July 4.
