When the shock finally wore off from the U.S. national team's shocking elimination from World Cup qualifying last month, the reality began to set in. The next World Cup for the United States would be, at the earliest, in 2022, meaning it was time to look toward a new generation of talent to help the program rebuild from the debacle.
We still don't know who the coach will be who helps steer that rebuilding process, and we aren't likely to know for many months.
