Fabian Johnson and Gladbach bomb out of European competition

Despite United States international Fabian Johnson being in the form of his life, Borussia Monchengladbach have failed to extend their European expedition through the new year. Not only did their 4-2 loss to Manchester City keep them out of the Champions League Round of 16, but coupled with a Sevilla win, they've missed out on a Europa League spot as well.

It appeared as if it was destined to be BMG's night early on when they got out to an early lead in large part to Johnson's efforts. His strong run up the left flank and centering ball found its way to an open Julian Korb to finish past Joe Hart for the opening goal.
